Pet Loss Grief Support
When a family member passes, it is natural to grieve. For many people, the grief is no less when dealing with the loss of a beloved pet. Such grief and sadness is normal and to be expected.
Throughout her life, Ginny Hizer has always been surrounded by animals, knowing the deep love of dogs, cats, horses, donkeys, goats and sheep, and other critters. She adheres to the Hawaiian concept of kahu – the deep spiritual meaning that explains how a person and their pet are connected on a deep level. A kahu is more than a pet owner, more like a “protector and guardian” which reflects the responsibility a person has for the well-being of the animal. Ginny earned a bachelor’s degree in communications and a master’s degree in business communication, both from Ohio University. In her professional career, she has worked primarily for non-profits, enjoying the opportunity to impact the community through their mission and services. She is a pastor in the United Methodist Church, where she is appointed to minister at Tanner Valley UMC.
